KHADJA NIN | LEO LEYA | 262451 | TC | £ 5.00
Astonishing singer Khadja has a silky smooth and very seductive voice that combines beautifully with the modern Paris style sound. The unnamed wizard on the keyboards is unbelievably good and I mustn't forget here to also mention the girls who make up the brilliant chorus line. Most of the songs are what you might term 'middle of the road' but there are a couple of power packed Angelique Kidjo style tracks like 'Ile' and 'Mupe' to really spice things up. The Latin sound that dominates 'Samba Latino', 'Mupe' and 'Simba' also adds considerably to the richness and variety of the album as a whole. Definitely Recommended. (F.T.Index: Ile, Njala, Samba Latino, Mwana Wa, Simba, Leo Leya. Mupe, Ay Ay Ay,) [12T/49M] Five tracks went straight into my computer juke box. CONDITION AS NEW BUT NOT SEALED | 1. LEO LEYA 2. KHADJA NIN | SAMBOLERA | 74321360482 | CD | £ 10.00
Every track simply gorgeous with her strong but smooth as velvet vocals. It's addictive once you start listening and I am sure that like me you will find it very hard to stop. Sung in English and Swahili with a bit of French for good measure. It is almost impossible to choose a favourite track but I think Wale Watu has it by a whisker from M'barik Fall. Comes with a 16 page booklet with all the lyrics and details of the musicians who play on this wonderful album. Condition as NEW. | 1. SAMBOLERA MAYI SON 2. SINA MALI, SINA DENI (FREE) 3. KHADJA NIN | YA PILI... | 74321241192 | CD | £ 5.00
Khadja sings in French, Swahili and Kirundi, her soulful lyrics and also political themes join the sophisticated composing of Nicolas Fiszman. She goes well beyond her African roots as you can hear with the magical harmonica of Toots Thielemans at the end of La Ballade de Gilles et Shana. Her low smoky voice has clearly been tempered by deep sadness. Comes with 18 page foldout of the lyrics plus images. If you are wondering what is behind the extra bit on track 8 have a look on Wikipedia. Very interesting. CONDITION AS NEW. | 1. SAMBOLERA MAYI SON 2. MAMA LUSIYA 3. AFRICAN COOPERATION 4. THE DRUMMERS OF BURUNDI | THE DRUMMERS OF BURUNDI | RWMCD1 | CD | £ 5.00
They played at the inaugural WOMAD Festival in 1982 and their performance was amazing. A spectacle of dance and music set around a crescent of a dozen great log drums made from hollowed-out tree trunks covered with dried animal skins. They are pounded rhythmically by the drummers in traditional Burundi costume. In the centre of the semi-circle, the painted Inkiryana lead drum is played by all of the drummers in turn before each piece ends. The drummers leap, twist and spin around the Inkiryana with tremendous energy, dancing with as much skill, expressiveness, and thunderous excitement as they drum. Tracklist samples have been taken from the one continuous track. CONDITION AS NEW PLAYED ONCE TO RECORD CLIPS. | 1. THE OPENING 2. SEVENTH MINUTE 3. SEVENTEENTH MINUTE 4. THE END
