CONGO

The Repuplic of Congo shares not only a long river border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (or Zaire as it used to be called and I for one still do) but also its love of Rumba and Soukous music. Artists have moved fairly freely between the two countries for many years.

JEFF LOUNA PAULINA MINEURE DARL018 LP £ 0.00
WOW!...... Now that's what I call music with a capital M. Vocal harmonies as sweet as honey with guitars that sing and a killer brass line up. Who made it? Well back in the good old 80's Jeff did the lead vocals and all the guitaring while Lea Lignanzi and Baba Bhy Gao helped with the singing. Ballou Canta was on toumbas and Manga, Priso, Roger Kom and Ben's comprised the horn section. Strangely this is the first time I have played it since I got it and I probably would have left it in the racks if somebody hadn't been interested in it. ( F.T.Index: Paulina Mineure, Ngai Na Batelo Congo, Sonzo To Disco, Bolingo Va Mbongo Te, Nono Okanisaka. ) [5T/32M]

Jeff Louna - ORCHESTRE TAO-TAO ORCHESTRE TAO-TAO DE PARIS AFMS005 LP £ 0.00
A really nice album that is not only difficult to find but also difficult find a country to file it under. Jeff Louna is the only artist I knew and he sings, plays guitars and is also the artistic director so I have placed it under Congo with him. The members of the band come from the Universite d'Amiens and are drawn from Congo, Congo D. R., Central African Republic, Gabon, Benin, Guinea and Cameroon. Musically it is sweetly played guitars up front somewhat soukous in style and if you have a listen some of the tracks on DARL018 you will have a good idea of the sound. 1. SANTA MUTOMBO
2. NGBONGA TI LIBERTE
3. LOLANGO
4. NZAMBE ALAKISI LA VERITE (TELEVISION)
LES TOMAWAKS LE PROFESSIONNEL - ENVAHISSEURS CD85602 CD £ 10.00
Well this will get the booties pumping as the group launches into some lovely soukous dance tracks. Led by lead singer and composer Jarry's Fimbo. Some gorgeous guitar from Nene Tchakou and Auguy Lutula is backed vocally by Dunny Claude and Claudio Massaki. Definitely one of those little gems that have been overlooked.

BRAND NEW UNSEALED PLAYED ONCE FOR CLIPS.

Released back in 1983 on the original Sonics label but with the addition of an Earthworks sticker bottom right rear. All tracks were re-released as part of the CD L'indispensable.

Condition of record is MINT while sleeve has a tiny bit of wear around the edges. Pretty good for a 40 year old album.

PAMELO MOUNK'A HOMMAGE A PAMELLO MOUNK'A - HOSANA CD82626 CD £ 10.00
Originally released on CD back in 1990 as 'The Come Back'. It was re-released with different inlays and track order shortly after his death in 1996. Mounka was one of the most popular Congo-Brazzaville singers. His first step up the ladder came from Zairean band leader Tabu Ley Rochereau who recorded him in 1963. He was a member of the Bantous de la Capitale for some time before going solo in the mid-60s. He released numerous hits singles until 1980 when he went to Paris. There he recorded the hit album L’Argent Appelle L’Argent. In 1983 he recorded again with Rochereau on '20 Ans De Carriere'. 1. D'ICI L'AN 2000

PAMELO MOUNK'A LES MERVEILLES DU PASSE Vol. I CD79090 CD £ 15.00
Sweetly sung and sweetly played guitars combine to make for a really beautiful album. I did notice quite a few clicks in the CD but these are from the original recording done by N'gapy Productions for Sonodisc back in 1985 probably taken from an old LP. Included is a copy CD-R from my own collection with most of the clicks repaired.

PAMELO MOUNK'A LES MERVEILLES DU PASSE Vol. II CD79091 CD £ 15.00
Now this is what I call music. My two favourite tracks ASSETOU OUN DJARABI and DJIMO IVI are just so incredibly beautiful to listen too. The rest are wonderful as well but these two are outstanding. I did notice the odd click here and there but these are from the original recording done by N'gapy Productions for Sonodisc back in 1985 probably taken from an old LP. Included is a copy CD-R from my own collection with the clicks removed or repaired.

PAMELO MOUNK'A L'ESSENTIAL PMSYL001CD CD £ 20.00
Another superb set of tracks from Pamelo with his top hit 'L'ARGENT APPELLE L'ARGENT' being my favourite closely followed by 'LAISSE TOI VIVRE MAMOUNI'. Sweet vocals all round and simply beatiful guitaring with a bit of brass thrown in for good measure. A very sought after album.

PAMELO MOUNK'A L'INCONTOURNABLE PMSYL003CD CD £ 20.00
The third album in the series has more jet propelled guitar and sweet vocals like the first two. However I must admit that the last two tracks taken from the Propulse LP where Pamelo takes a back seat to the lovely vocals of Diany Bakela were my favorites. Both tracks went straight into my computer juke box.

PAMELO MOUNK'A L'INDISPENSABLE PMSYL002CD CD £ 20.00
More great songs from the wonderful voice of Pamelo Mounk'a and one with a surprise which I have yet to understand. Track No. 8 is entitled LUCIE but I know it as MAMIWEY. Now put in either title with Pamelo's name in YouTube and you get the same song. So which is it? In 1983 it was Lucie on the LP CAMITINA but by 1984 it was Mamiwey on the LP ASSETOU OUN DIARABI.

Lovely compilation album with over 70 minutes of great music between the 8 long playing tracks from Tchico and Lolo who released them originally back in 1981-82. They became one of the top groups in Brazzaville. The songs here are from 1980-82 just before Les Trois Freres split up and Youlou went on to found Kamikaze Loningissa.
