FRANCOIS N'GWA | LA PANTHERE A PLEURE.. | CEKAM1 | TC | £ 0.00
Vocally Francois sounds very like his fellow countryman Pierre Akendengue, who's distinctive pulsating vocal style, wonderful guitar playing and musical experimentation has made him famous world-wide and a favourite of mine for many years. This wonderful album follows very closely in that same mould by experimenting musically with additional keyboard wizardry and even a little bit of heavy metal guitaring whilst still retaining it's original Gabonaise musical and poetic roots. If you like Akendengue then you'll love this, it's just wonderful. (F.T.Index: Dizangua, Aux Clowns, Intchegue, N'tchale, Okoul, Forest Mussiru, Oghendo, Dolo.) [9T/42] | 1. DIZANGUA 2. N'TCHALE 3. Thanks to Simon G in New York for letting me know where Kassa comes from so that I can give him a home in Gabon instead of temporary accomodation under Africa. All I have to do now is have a listen and do a write-up.

Since Andy Kershaw started to give her some airtime I can't get enough of her music and some of you have mentioned in your letters just how marvellous her voice is. I've known how good she was since I first featured her 'Gaella' album a couple of years ago. This album is gorgeously seductive with singing and a solid beat somewhat Tshala Muana in style if not better. On the last album 'Kelio' she dueted with Tabu Ley Rochereau and Orchestre Afrisa. On this one she duets with Thelma Houston on the stunning 'We Must Unite' track. One of Africa's best female singers.

One of Gabon's top artists who now lives in Los Angeles, U.S.A. She has at least five albums to her credit and this her latest release which was recorded in California has proved a top seller back in Gabon and other parts of francophone West Africa. Lovely guitar with plenty of horns all played Congolese style and pushed along by Patience's superb vocals. Some great tracks on this album especially when she adds a bit of Gabonese influence to the percussion as in Opoungou Andimba.

Magic album from top star Patience, gorgeously sung, as usual and with loads of great guitar playing from some of Gabon's best un-known musicians, such as La Rose Mbadou, Sylvain Avara and Georges Oyendze. Oh! and nearly forgot, on the track 'Sango Ya Mawa' there is also some guy called Tabu Ley Rochereau with Afrisa International????? They sound pretty good and could go far if they stick with her. Jokes apart, her previous albums have not been big sellers over here. I don't know why, as she is very big in the U.S.A. where she now lives and her albums are even mixed there by her own production company. Musically they are Congolese and for those of you who don't look at maps, Gabon is only a stones throw from Congo D. R. and right next to the Congo, the centre of the musical universe for some!

The fourth album, in what is almost becoming a mini series, from the wonderful voice of Patience and this time with the SOUKOUS STARS providing the backing. As you would expect there is plenty of gorgeous guitar but wait till she hits you with the second track Zimbala-Mbala and the drummers get their first chance to show you their paces. The sweet little girl style that she adopts on Shameri Buti is super but for those more interested in the guitar playing of the Soukous Stars wait till you hear them full throttle on both Nko and Biloa.
