BLACK FEELING TOUBI | LIBEREZ AFRICA | MAI1072 | TC | £ 0.00
Composer and musician Diassibo Tchiombiano better known as Dias is the man behind the group Black Feeling. From the age of ten he played the trumpet like his father who was in a colonial army band. Elhadj Taya, the famous Niger songwriter told him to write songs and he did, mixing the traditional Gourmantche music with reggae rhythms. His meeting in 1983 with Jimmy Cliff and Burning Spear in Burkina Faso and his second meeting with Alpha Blondy breathed new notes into Dias' compositions, he inserted traditional instruments, the Molo (a type of 3 stringed Lute) and the Kuntigui (a type of 1 string Lute) into his compositions by creating a symbiosis between traditional Gourmantche music and reggae rhythms. In 1988, he recorded this his first album Toubi. He recorded his next album The Law of the Jungle in Niamey before moving to Paris for his third album - Sheitan. His fourth album called Salima is inspired by Gourmantche and was recorded at the CFPM of Niamey in 2001. In 2024 he is now credited with a total of nine albums and has also built a name for himself as an artist with his own gallery called Taweydo. I couldn't find any mention of this cassette on the web anywhere. A Super Rare item. ON CD-R IN MY COLLECTION | 1. LIBEREZ AFRICA 2. SATAN ARRIVE 3. ZALLEY 4. TOUBI 5. SI HEIN 6. SATAN ARRIVE
MAMAR KASSEY | ALATOUMI | 470003 | CD | £ 12.00
One of the finest world music albums of 2000 was Mamar Kassey's Denke Denke and this is the sublime new album from the nine piece band from Niger. Resolutely contemporary in style and sound yet imbued with the centuries of Peul tradition, they are ambassadors for their country and their continent and they provide us with some of the most stimulating and effervescent sounds from the dynamic world of African music. Loved track 2 where the one string lute called here a godje makes its first appearance. A lovely sound I first heard from the similar styled Senegalese instrument called a riti. Listen out for chorus girls Ramatou Alhassane Dante and Fatouma Amadou who pop up with some lovely vocals every minute or two. A TOP SELLING ALBUM. BRAND NEW AND STILL SEALED. | 1. FOULBE GARI 2. MAMAR KASSEY | DENKE-DENKE | 332006 | CD | £ 12.00
Just one amazing CD. Frantic ngonis, driving electric guitars, bass, wild fulani, lots of percussion, male lead and female chorus all leave you completely breathless. The lead flute player has assembled a staggering group to fulfil his vision of a contemporary Niger roots band to take on the world. (Froots Oct 2000) Released back in 1999 the band is led by singer and flautist Yacouba Moumouni. Their music ranges from traditional Zarma-Songhai, Hausa and Fula rhythms played on instruments such as the molo (a 3 stringed lute) and modern instruments such as the electric bass. MDOU MOCTAR | FUNERAL FOR JUSTICE | OLE2031CD | CD | £ 17.00
The Funeral For Justice album was released in 2024 and is the latest album by Mdou Moctar. It was recorded at the close of two years spent touring the globe. It follows the release in 2021 of Afrique Victime and captures the Nigerien quartet in ferocious form. The music is louder, faster, and more wild. The guitar solos are feedback-scorched and the lyrics are passionately political. Nothing is held back or toned down. My favourite track is the superb Oh France which just blew me away totally. MOUSSA POUSSI | TORO | SYL83131 | TC | £ 10.00
A smashing album released back in 1992 from the velvet voiced Moussa with Boncana Maiga giving it the Paris treatment. Fast paced and very different to the tape I got last year by Saadou which was quite traditional. Recorded at Studio JBZ in Abidjan with Wurri Moctar on keyboards, Abdoulay and Boko Didier on guitars and top Ivorien singer Antoinette Konan in the chorus. (F.T.Index: Gao Izo, Toro, Nabo Nabo, Weimo, Gossi) [9T/38M] BRAND NEW AND STILL SEALED. ON CD-R IN MY COLLECTION | 1. TORO 2. GAO IZO 3. NABO NABO 4. CRISE DU GOLFE 5. GOSSI 6. WEIMO 7. SAADOU | BORI | 83127 | TC | £ 15.00
Saadou is a superstar in his own country with a number of more traditional sounding albums to his credit. Most of the line-up is unknown but singer Antoinette Konan (See Ivory Coast) is on chorus with Boko Didier on bass guitar, Manu Yodan on sax and Ali Maliki on lead guitar. Released in 1991 the album was recorded at Studio JBZ in Abidjan by Boncana Maiga and Ali Maliki, there being no studios in Niger. The music (having nothing from Niger to compare it with) comes across as a slightly funky Malian sound which is similar to early Zani Diabate mixed with Maiga's Paris fussion style. Saadou's crisply delivered vocals are perfectly matched to Ali's lovely guitar playing as the track Badossa will show. A wonderful album. CONDITION AS NEW BUT NOT SEALED. Last one in stock. A compilation CD released by Sterns in 1993 taken from the two cassettes Bori and Toro. Missing from Bori are the tracks Badossa and Maidawa and from Toro the tracks Crise Du Golfe and Gondi Yaro.
